two new music videos

PA Productions was asked to produce 2 video clips for a new Sydney rock band Edens March.

The first video entitled "Home" was conceived as a post apocalyptic story with a drama sequence as the intro which then continued to support the song.

The location was only available for 3 hours so the planning for the drama segments and slo mo song sequences had to be timed to the second. It all went very smoothly and the cast and "limited" crew had a great shoot.

The following day the stage scenes were shot so they could be incorporated in the final edit.

In contrast Stay was written as a" RomCom" and featured the band in a more fun and comedic role where boy meets girl (almost) then finally gets girl, without the help of his fellow band members. Again time constraints were an issue as two of the band members had only half the day available, so shooting out of sequence was essential in getting the clip completed in the 8 hour day.

Paul Smith directed and shot both the clips and used the 5D mk2 and a 600D for the slomo sections.

living audio books - video promo

LynHall Publications engaged the services of PA Productions to create an introduction video for their new Living Audio Book publication arm.

The video had to contain elements from some of the Audio Books produced and relate the new way in which these audio books differ from the conventional books now available.

Paul Smith shot the promo on the 5Dmk2 and edited it on the Edius NLE system.

documentary in the Philippines

Documenting the Development Of the SMI copper Gold Project in Southern Mindanao, Philippines. I recently did a follow up shoot in southern Mindanao in the Philippines for one of my long time clients.

I had to cover the progression of Sagittarius mines incorporated and their initial exploration of the Tampakan copper gold project. This included the ongoing water testing one of the most remote waterfall and catchment areas of Mindanao, and documenting the construction of the pioneer main camp that will be used to house the primary work force.

On the previous shoot I used an XDCAM pdw 700 but on this occasion, due to the remote areas involved, I opted for the XDCAM EX3 as a lighter alternative.

The whole project is part of an interactive video and model display set up by Xstrata mining to educate and inform the local people on what to expect from the mining procedure in their area and how it may impact on their communities.

original music for international festivals

Wearing my composer's hat, I created an original score for a two minute film devised by the students of Bourke Street Public School in Surry Hills, Sydney. It was produced and directed by Greg Punch.

The film "FOOTPRINTS" screened at International Children's Film Festivals in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Peterborough, Canada.

The film does not try to explain a concept but instead it opens it up for discussion with a question - "What is a carbon footprint?"

big score for Ford and Tap Dogs

October last year I was asked to design a sound scape and compose music for an international launch of a new ford ute.

The brief was, "Recreate an industrial environment reminiscent of the 1930 - 40s in what was one of the biggest ship building workshops in Australia, on Cockatoo island."

The sound design had to be in surround and last for 15 minutes, then work its way into a tap routine with Dein Perry's famous Tap Dogs. I worked closely with Dein on getting his already existing music to sit with the sound design and new music I was to compose for the event.

The reveal music was to be an epic, large scale, movie style with a driving rhythm and large orchestra. A huge budget, a huge sound, and a huge success both for my client and Ford.

The video clip is long, but it's all here (see to the right) if anyone wants to watch it.
